Oh hi 😀. I’m Ann Robson, a software engineer based in San Francisco, CA.

I grew up in California’s Central Valley on a pistachio farm. Although I’ve eaten more pistachios than most humans, I still love them, and I especially love them in the form of gelato.

I’ve been doing “computer stuff” since I graduated from UC Davis in the mid-90s, which is where and when I made my very first web page, by copying and pasting code. (These days, we call it bootstrapping.) My career in web development is the longest of anyone I know.

I like to think that my skills have evolved with web technologies, that I have good sense for the craft, and that I am a part of moving things forward. I have many opinions. So many opinions.

I love best practices, especially concerning web performance. I believe web development is a mess, and software in general is screwed up, and therefore we need lists. Maybe web developers are like sailors; we need rituals and rules, else we may get thrown overboard in a storm.

My experience gives me a unique, big picture view, and I am committed to help course correct how we make software in the 21st century.

I have a wonderful teenage daughter, a brilliant partner, and good friends. I love 📚 🎸🍫 🎾 ⚽️ 🏐 🏈 🌯 🥗 🌮 🍜 🍝 🍣 🍟 🚲 🎨 🐺 🐦 🐋 and in fact the whole shebang: 🌎 🌍 🌏 (all sides).
